Woe is Me

A music video for the british singer Aaron Sibley. Woe is me wanted to represent the depression that the artist went through. The falling into a routine where you feel stuck on your own world and every time feeling that you’ve fallen deep into a cycle of depression until he finally frees himself from this reality.
Visual concept
Aaron asked us for a similar puppet of him, to represent the story of his life.
The first artistic proposal was with a wire puppet (”3 Dimensional puppet”) but due to budget the final design proposal was with a more 2-dimensional puppet, layered with some wired objects.
Materials
Almost everything was made with recycled materials (scraps from clothes and leftover cartboard and plasticine).
Technique
For the animation, we used a sort of “multi-plane” where every wall/set is slightly above the table level.
The face and body were not wired and so the animation is very simplistic, relying only on the play between speed and movement of the each part of the body.
Fun fact: the jacket was used from the puppet Gus in Deixa-me Rir.
