PUPPET MAKING
From the wire armature to the final stich of each puppet’s pieces of clothing, Mariana makes every puppet used in her personal projects. Felt is her prefered material, using technics such as needle felting or simply making pieces made out of felt.
Maria & Antonia
Project: Tales of Conversano
Maria and Antonia star in a short film set in the 17th century. With traditional closing from the south region of Europe, all of them have to key characteristics of this area, the apron and the kerchief, the neck “scarf”.
Initially I’ve conceived the clothes to be needle felting but quickly realised that to create the shape of the skirt it needed to be made with sheets of felt. The rest of the ensemble is a mix of felt sheets and cotton fabric. First time making skin out of cotton fabric.
Puppets heads by artisan: Aurelia Leone.
